Bridge Over Laurel

from 50.00

Appalachian Trail in TN

Light poured through the trees, so vividly colored; the golden rays of sun clashed so starkly against the green canopy. The air was still and cool, and damp with mist. The only sounds were from the current of the river, and the birds in the trees.

I had been nearly 2 months away from home at this point; I had settled into a groove, and had established a certain pace. And while I could push miles if I had to, here I chose to dawdle. I walked slowly, absorbing the sights, as if I was trying to memorize them. I stopped at every shallow bank, and bent down to touch the clear pool, to constantly convince myself it was real.

Simple living; purpose without urgency; I was content, and I was free.
